Guiding Climbs
Operating within your comfort zone whilst guiding multi-pitch climbs is crucial to working as a competent and safe MCI. This course focuses on honing your personal climbing and guiding skills, ensuring you can efficiently swing leads with a partner or safely take two people climbing, without kicking out runners or getting into tangles. You should be confident climbing VS-E1 (or above), although you will not be expected to lead at this grade if at all uncomfortable - we can still cover plenty of skills in easier terrain.
✓ Effective climbing as a pair, stance management and slick change-overs ✓ Guiding two climbers safely, avoiding tangles, and tips & tricks |

teaching climbing
Instructor, Coach, Guide... What about teacher ? To teach, you not only have to know what to teach, but also when, how, why and to who. Balancing these elements is hard, yet rewarding. MCI's need to not only be a safe role model, but they also need to work well with their student, and the environment, for learning to take place. Safety, and avoiding twists, are mere basics at this stage.
✓ Finding out what to teach, profiling students and assessing their needs ✓ Venue, route selection and making best use of the environment ✓ Getting the basics right, painting a clear picture, progressing naturally ✓ Less talking, more doing - limiting the information overload |

Yes, please arrange this at the time of booking. Rucksacks cost £20 per person, per day. A deposit of £75 to cover any damage or soiling of the materials is required. - Can I bring along my own helmet, harness, ropes and climbing hardware to use or ask questions about?
Yes of course, however this equipment will be thoroughly checked by me or another member of staff before it is deemed suitable for use. - Where can I stay?

"I've spent a handful of days out with Alex, looking at enhancing my skills towards my MCI assessment. I can confidently say that these days have been hugely beneficial. Alex really has demystified some of the complexities of multi-pitch climbing. Alex has given me clarity, along with providing workable and repeatable processes that I can go away with and practice easily. These methods, along with Alex's supportive nature, have given me loads more confidence to go out and practice with real 'clients', and I feel like I am much further along the road to assessment for spending time with him. Thanks!"
